Hundreds and millions of people in the world’s population are vegetarian, either by choice or because of limited purchasing power. As world population rises to 12 billion in the next century, greater numbers of people are going to turn into vegetarians due to inadequate supplies of meat. However, there are some people who have access to meat but their teeth would not allow them. Many times, meat fibers get stuck and rot your teeth away. Well, fear not as you have the option to get dental implants. Or you can simply consult a dentist to get your root canal done. However, when many people cannot consume meat, there should better be a substitute available that can fulfill the nutritional requirements of the world.

Apparently, it seems to be just another topic of discussion. In reality, it is far more than that. When the nutritional requirement of almost two third of the world population is at stake, there is a great urgency to find a healthy resource. To all those inquisitive minds, pseudomeat is the answer.

Pseudomeat is a strong smelling Sudanese, protein rich food which is usually cooked in stews and soups. Traditionally known as KAWAL, it obtains a meat like flavor from the fermenting process. It is produced by solid state fermentation of readily available plant. The plant is of little or no economic value, as it is unpalatable in its natural state. But it contains protein characteristically present in meat.

After fermentation you get a product that is not only edible, but also sufficiently regarded nutritionally fulfilling by local people. Thus, it can be employed as a meat substitute without any fear.

Striking Features Of Pseudomeat:

• Firstly, it makes a great replacement for meat, especially to those who get a cringing feeling at the sight or by smelling meat.

• With all the essential nutrients of meat present, there is no need to look for unhealthy meat sources.

• This particular alternative is way too cheap then all meat sources combined.

• It lacks saturated fats and cholesterol that are incredulously present in red meat, rendering it unhealthy.

• It evade risk of all the meat borne diseases like Alzheimer disease, bowel cancer arthritis etc.

With that known, let us find out the basic raw material.

Leaves of a local plant are used as the raw material for making Pseudomeat. It grows wild in North, Central, and South America, Asia, Africa, and Oceania. Its leaves, seeds, and root are used in folk medicine, primarily in Asia. It is not a great meat replacement, but also a complete food with real health benefits.

Some Other Health Benefits

• Tea made from its seeds was used to treat headaches, fatigue and stomachaches.

• African natives used the leaves to make a protein paste.

• Its Seeds can be used as coffee substitute.

• It is believed to possess a laxative effect

• It is also beneficial for the eyes

It would not be wrong to say that this meat substitute can surely fulfill the ever asking demand for food. The locals have savored on the benefits, but it is high time the rest of the world knows about this valuable food.
