If you’re trying to master the guitar then I want to show you how to save yourself a lot of headaches and disappointment! First of all, learning the guitar is hard work – keeping your inspiration at a high level is vital if you are going to succeed. And sometimes its difficult to know where to go to acquire the necessary knowledge – where should you start? And how do you know who should be teaching you? The information presented in this article will enable you to avoid the pitfalls that prevent many guitarists from achieving their dreams.

The most important aspect of learning the guitar is without doubt motivation. Keeping your motivation at a high level is absolutely essential if you are going to master the instrument. In the early days the physical discomfort of learning to play can be quite tough on you wrists and fingers, and many an aspiring player has given up at this stage.

Also, learning songs by tediously working your way through boring guitar tuition material is hardly likely to inspire the budding player. You can keep motivation high and accelerate your learning by working on simple techniques that can quickly sound powerful, and in many cases, as good as the pros! This is the key to inspiring you to take on new challenges and hit increasing peaks of musical achievement. Also, working with other players, or with a good teacher, can help enormously in keeping your motivation high.

Another major stumbling block in learning the guitar successfully is information overload. These days there is so much free information available on the internet unfortunately much of this is disjointed, and will do little or nothing to help you to develop your playing. Without structure in your practising you will make little progress. The other problem that information overload brings is inevitable – you will practice endlessly without ever remembering what you’ve learnt what’s the point of learning something if you can’t remember it? The key to all effective learning is that it has to be structure in a clear, logical and progressive manner if is to achieve maximum effectives with the student.

Lastly what methods of learning should you choose? Today there are so many self appointed experts that its difficult to know who you should trust. There are two aspects to this. Firstly, you will want someone who is extremely knowledgeable on the guitar. But its also vital that their method of tuition is right for you. You need a teacher who can help you to develop a deep underlying approach to the guitar, rather than just teaching you to play a few tunes.

So – make sure you take steps to keep your inspiration and motivation topped up, resist the temptation of information overload, and make sure that you work with the right teacher. Provided you follow this advice you will significantly improve your chances of becoming successful as a guitar player.

Now get out there and start your journey to becoming a guitar star!
