A roof is a very significant part of a house. It covers the upper end of a house. It keeps you warm and cool in extreme weathers. It also protects you from inclement weather like rain, frost etc. A slick-looking roof adds to the elegance of your house. Here we will take a look at different types of roofs.

The most popular type of roof is the slate roof. They are not only great to look at but also gives protection from fire. These roofs are durable too. But these roofs have some disadvantages. They are quite expensive. And they need robust structures to support them. You cannot walk on these roofs as you might damage the tiles.

The metal roofs are next in line. They are very strong roofs and long lasting too. These roofs can withstand heavy storms and hail. They are also made of recycled metals to make them eco-friendly. However, they are a little expensive to install them as they require special tools. The major drawback that these roofs have is that hey will sound very noisy during rain and hail.

Metal roofing are sold in sheets, panels and shingles. The sheet iron roofs are very popular in the rural areas of Asia and Africa. They are very durable and cost effective. The sheets are galvanized to make them resistant to rusts. They are easy to repair and make replacements.

Aluminum roofs are widely used in Europe and North America. They are quite expensive compared to iron roofs. They are lighter in weight as result do not exert much pressure on the structure of the building. They are good to look at and are available in various colors and designs. They are durable and rust-resistant. They are available in many shades like blue, gray, green, red, etc. These roofing enhance the architectural style of any home. With advancement of technology aluminum roofing has been made reflective and heat resistant to.

Stainless steel roofing is the most expensive all roofs. They are very durable and can last beyond half a century. They are rust-resistant and have thermal reflectivity. Stainless roofs are also coated with special alloys of zinc and tin that reinforce their strength, energy efficiency, durability, and high corrosion resistance even when exposed to harsh weather conditions.

Copper roofing also come under a type of metal roofs. They are expensive and meant for high-end homes. They are not very common. The major demerit of these roofs is that have fixing limitation. The fasteners to be used in these roofs have to be only copper, stainless steel or brass. That is why these do not enjoy a good deal of popularity.

Concrete tile roofs are just like slate roofs. But they are lower in costs. But they look quite attractive and are fire-resistant. They are available in various colors and style. They are vulnerable to damage by hail storms. There are not suitable in extreme cold climates.

Besides these there are also roofs made of wood, glass fiber, asphalt, mud flap. They are designer roofs too that are laminated.
