Part II
It's a mistake to not test your ad position, especially if you're looking for a top slot in Google's search results. Some would say this is exactly where you want your ad, but it can actually be a bad thing. Just because your ad is at the top of the list doesn't mean that you couldn't fail. Believe it or not, most often times lower positioned ads have higher click through ratios. So it's important to test the return on investment for each of your positions. The 4th and 5th positions, believe it or not, are often better because they aren't as expensive and because there is a much lower customer acquisition cost.
You can't have more than 100 ad groups per account, which is why you'll have to work under that number. Your landing page must be effective if you hope to succeed with Adwords. You wonder why that is? You want to not only send people to your page, but you also want them to convert. You'll just witness your money going up in smoke. To get a good landing page that converts traffic into buyers, you must test it just like your test your advertisements. For instance, if your landing page isn't performing, just alter the elements slightly, like the design, or headline, to see if you can find something that works. So it's not only necessary to test the landing page itself, but you must also test all the parts that make up that page. You will then be able to know what works and what doesn't work so that you can use more money to expand your campaigns.
It's imperative that you track advertisement and keyword information. This is the wrong way to go if you don't want to lose money as you'll be unable to see what worked or not. So in other words, if your ads aren't performing, then you're simply putting your money to waste. There are many tools that can track your progress, like Google Adwords. Your keywords need to be tested/tracked using different variations such as plurals and misspellings. The other reason you should track your keywords is because you'll want to do what's working on other ad campaigns. When you know a campaign is working well, you can apply the same strategies to your other ads to get similar results.
It's a good idea to turn the content network off in your account's settings. The content network is set to on by default, and unless you are very familiar with it, you should shut it off. This is a type of contextual advertising in which Google puts your ads on partner sites it deems relevant. You generally won't get a good click through rate using this type of advertising. You will see impressions but the CTR will be poor. Many of the click throughs you do get will not convert well, as they tend to be more browsers than buyers. Therefore, it's safe to say that Google Adwords is the top when it comes to online ad campaigns. It's the holy grail of direct marketing done through the Internet. You can find a lot of success with this platform as long as you heed these mistakes. It's all in how you use it.
